All about Barbados

The main capital Bridgetown was founded in 1628 by colonists.
Trafalgar Square (now 'National Heroes Square' since 1999) is central and a mini copy of the famous place in London, included a statue of Admiral Nelson. If you believe the bajans, their Trafalgar Square is older than the original in London.
You will find very big shops like Cave Sheperd, where tourists like to go, Woolworth, Jewelry Shops, Banks, many smaller shops for things you need daily, drugstores, music shops etc. Have a break and take a snack at Chefette or one of the other kitchens which offer delicious food.

Going on you can walk through different malls, look at comfortable clothes or take fresh fruit with you. Da Costas Mall is right between Broad- and Swanstreet. Bridgetown Mall and Mall34 are on the other side of Broadstreet towards Careenage.

You find the parlament buildings there too. There are the two chambers of parlament.

The independence arch was built in 1987, the bridge leading towards it across the Careenage (this is the outlet of the constitution river) was rebuilt in 2007.
Take a walk to Queens Park where you see a 1000 year old tree and Fountain Garden. The fountain originated in 1865, the gardens around were created 17 years later.
Take a leasurely walk along the esplanade to Pelican Village where you can buy artwork of the bajans.
