All about Barbados
You can see a fist which is holding two sugar canes crossed. The sugar industry is one of the most important ones. The cross is linked to the day of independence, the 30.11.1966 (Cross of Andreas).
Beneath the fist there is a helmet and shield, which is supported by a fish (dolphin) on the left and a pelican on the right side. On the shield there is the flowers of the national flower('Pride of Barbados') and a ficus tree with roots, after the islands name occured ('los Barbados', spanish means 'barbados' - 'bearded').
On the banner is the motto of the island: 'Pride and industry'. This coat of arms is on coins too.
There are three stripes, blue on the right and left, standing for sea and sky, in the middle gold for the beaches.
Also in the middle is Neptuns trident on the gold symbolizing the connection to the sea on the on hand and on the other to the three principles of the government:
Democracy: 'Out of the people', 'With the people', 'For the people'.
